What is Divergent Performing Arts?

Divergent Performing Arts is an educational and competitive organization for high school and college level musicians. With the wealth of performance and educational experience brought by our exceptional design and instructional staff, DPA aims to be the leading independent organization fielding both percussion and wind ensembles in the area. DPA operates as a sub-committee of the Ferndale Schools Fine Arts Booster, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization, striving to provide quality music education to youth performers in Southeast Michigan.

Divergent Percussion and Divergent Winds will compete in the Percussion Independent Open and Winds Independent A classes in the Michigan Color Guard Circuit and Winter Guard International.

Mission Statement

Provide an exceptional Educational Experience for students through music performance and competition throughout Michigan

WHAT TO EXPECT

Members of Divergent Performing Arts can expect quality instruction during all rehearsals by experienced music educators from around the region. While our typical rehearsal schedule is limited to Friday nights, all day Saturdays, and Sunday mornings, both ensembles can only progress as a whole if all of their members put in the necessary practice time during the week. This means preparing new music, reviewing drill, eating healthy, and staying in shape.

At the Open Class level, the indoor marching activity is challenging and demanding, but incredibly rewarding. It’s a rare opportunity to perform for thousands of cheering fans alongside some of the best friends you’ll ever make—all of whom share the common goal of building something great and being really, really good at what they do. We expect a lot from our members, but the life-long reward is worth the effort.
